Sustainability is no longer a buzzword—it’s a global imperative. In recent years, growing concerns about environmental degradation, climate change and resource depletion have sparked urgent calls for action across all industries. As the world faces these critical challenges, the food industry responsible for a significant share of global emissions—around 25%— has a pivotal role to play in creating solutions that protect our planet for future generations. At Natural Sourcing International (NSI), we are fully committed to leading this charge and are proud to be part of a growing movement that’s transforming the food ecosystem for the better.
At NSI, we are not just responding to these challenges—we’re actively shaping the future of sustainability. With a bold mission to create a more sustainable food ecosystem, we’re reimagining how food is sourced, produced and consumed. Our commitment goes beyond reducing environmental impact; it’s about supporting ethical practices, empowering communities and driving long-lasting, positive change.

In this effort, as a private-label supplier, NSI holds a valuable position in influencing the broader supply chain. By advocating for and implementing sustainable practices, we empower businesses and consumers to make choices that respect both people and the planet. One of the key pillars of our strategy is regenerative agriculture—a revolutionary approach that goes beyond sustainable farming by actively restoring ecosystems, enhancing biodiversity and mitigating the effects of climate change.
Regenerative Agriculture: The Future of Farming
Regenerative agriculture is more than just a farming method—it’s a transformative approach that aims to restore the health of the planet while enhancing agricultural productivity. In contrast to conventional farming techniques that deplete soil health and biodiversity, regenerative agriculture uses practices like crop rotation, cover cropping, reduced tillage and agroforestry to improve the quality of the land and strengthen natural ecosystems.

The potential impact of regenerative agriculture is immense. According to the Rodale Institute, transitioning all global cropland to regenerative farming practices could sequester up to 322 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This would significantly help mitigate the effects of climate change and support a healthier planet for future generations.
Moreover, regenerative farming practices go beyond reducing environmental damage—they restore the land. These practices improve soil health, increase water retention and reduce the need for chemical inputs like pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. Ultimately, regenerative agriculture leads to more resilient farms that are better equipped to face climate challenges such as droughts and floods.
Why Regenerative Agriculture is Key to Sustainability
Soil Health: Healthy soils are essential for thriving agriculture. Through regenerative practices, farmers can increase soil fertility by 20-50% while improving water retention by 20-40% (FAO, 2018). This ensures long-term sustainability for crops and the environment.
Biodiversity: Regenerative agriculture fosters diverse ecosystems, creating a buffer against pests, diseases and environmental stress. These ecosystems are more resilient and require fewer chemical interventions, such as pesticides.
By fostering biodiversity, NSI’s regenerative farming practices help create resilient ecosystems, supporting both wildlife and sustainable agriculture. Carbon Sequestration: Healthy soils can absorb up to 2,000 metric tons of CO2 per hectare annually (World Resources Institute, 2019).This powerful carbon sink can help combat climate change while providing a long-term solution to global warming.
NSI’s Regenerative Commitment
At NSI, regenerative agriculture is a foundational pillar of our sustainability strategy. Our approach aims to drive sustainable growth and integrate value across our business, within our stakeholder groups and throughout the societal systems we operate in. We call this our triple-bottom-line approach, which focuses on three key areas: People, Planet and Profit.
People: We are committed to improving the health and well-being of our people, partners and all company stakeholders. By supporting regenerative practices, we not only empower farmers but also foster stronger communities and healthier ecosystems that create lasting positive impact.
Planet: Our mission is to reduce our environmental footprint and contribute to the regeneration of nature through the products we provide. By promoting sustainable agriculture, we are actively working to restore biodiversity, enhance soil health and reduce carbon emissions, ultimately helping to reverse climate change.
Profit: We aim to enable sustainable business growth while offering outstanding value to the end consumer. By championing regenerative agriculture, we create long-term business value, providing products that are not only good for the planet but also drive consumer demand for sustainably sourced food.
Through our commitment to these three pillars, NSI is helping to build a future where sustainability is integrated into every aspect of the food system—from farming practices to business operations and beyond.
We don’t just talk about sustainability—we invest in it. By working with regenerative farmers, NSI is helping to rebuild ecosystems, foster biodiversity and sequester carbon, creating a more sustainable future for businesses, communities and the planet.
Reducing Carbon Footprints: NSI’s Commitment to Sustainability
While regenerative agriculture addresses sustainability at the source, NSI understands that reducing our environmental footprint extends across every aspect of our operations. The food industry plays a significant role in global emissions, contributing around 25% of the world’s greenhouse gases (IPCC, 2019). At NSI, we believe that businesses, especially those in the food sector, must take immediate and bold action to mitigate their environmental impact.
We recognize that sustainability is a multifaceted issue and reducing our carbon footprint requires a comprehensive approach. From sourcing and transportation to packaging and product delivery, NSI is committed to minimizing emissions and ensuring that our practices support a healthier, more sustainable future for the planet.
Optimized Distribution: NSI uses advanced logistics technologies to reduce transportation emissions. By planning the most efficient routes, consolidating shipments and minimizing wasteful packaging, we significantly cut transportation-related CO2 emissions, making our entire supply chain more energy-efficient. Additionally, we have increased the amount of pallets per truckload, enhancing our logistics operations. Our partnership using the CHEP “Share, Repair, and Reuse” program allows us to further optimize pallet usage in select supply chains. This program alone helps us reduce over 10,000 lbs of waste and save 1,771 board feet of wood annually—significantly lowering our environmental footprint.
Sustainable Packaging: NSI is committed to using eco-friendly packaging solutions. Currently, 79.57% of our primary and secondary packaging contains Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) materials, which are collected through recycling programs and reprocessed into new products. This reduces waste and the need for virgin plastics, contributing to a circular economy. Furthermore, 82.79% of our packaging is recyclable, ensuring it can be reused or repurposed. We also offer Store Drop-Off Recyclable items, allowing consumers to recycle materials like plastic bags and films, which aren’t typically accepted in curbside recycling. This shift helps minimize landfill waste and encourages a circular economy.
Carbon Offsetting and Reduction: While some emissions are inevitable, NSI invests in carbon offset programs that support renewable energy projects, reforestation and other initiatives designed to reduce or sequester carbon emissions. We are committed to becoming carbon-neutral, exploring additional opportunities for offsetting and reducing emissions across all facets of our operations.
Tracking Our Impact: To ensure we are making tangible progress, NSI tracks and measures the carbon emissions across our entire supply chain. Through advanced data analytics and regular carbon footprint assessments, we identify areas for further improvement. By setting clear sustainability goals and reviewing performance regularly, NSI remains accountable to its stakeholders and the planet.
Partnerships That Drive Positive Change
NSI’s sustainability journey extends beyond our own operations. We collaborate with ethical producers and farmers who share our commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility. Through fair-trade practices and long-term contracts, we ensure that our partners are supported in adopting eco-friendly methods, empowering them to build more sustainable and resilient businesses.
Since 2017, NSI has partnered with Fairtrade America for supply chains such as cocoa and coconut sugar. This partnership has allowed us to source over 4,798,347 kg of Fairtrade ingredients, with 853,775 kg sourced in 2023 alone. Thanks to these collaborations, over $500,000 of Fairtrade premiums have been earned by farmers globally, which are reinvested into improving the sustainability of farming practices, supporting the economic viability of farms and ensuring the health and wellbeing of workers and their families. These premiums are vital for enhancing the resilience and long-term viability of the communities we serve.
